Preparation and investigation of optical properties of ZnO:Co powers

ZnO:Co powers with of Co concentrations ranging from 1at% to 15at% were prepared by sol-gel method. The powers show wurtzite crystal structure with the lattice constants changing with the cobalt content. The photoluminescence spectra (PL) consists of four bands: exciton emission band of 380 nm, a band around 400-500 nm, and tow bands at 588 nm and 690 nm. The existence and the intensity of the bands depend on the Co content, the optical excitation and the annealing condition. Origins of the emission were proposed.
